I'm pretty sure they're going to flashback way more to his past as Smeagol, fleshing out the brief glimpses we saw in ROTK. And imo, The Hobbit had more than enough characters and material for three films, especially when you consider the larger mythology Tolkien retrofitted the Hobbit into when he published LOTR.
I was hoping the post would discuss Gandalf's kinda-unexplained resurrection in the books. This was always something that long stood out to me even as a kid, because the Two Towers largely glosses over the issue, while the adaptation just remarks that he was 'sent back' and then moves on. Still though, nice to see an update on the Gollum project.
I wouldn't be really worried about the de-aging, if it happens. I mean, they've been doing it via automated or learning processes long before this was labelled "AI" and AI became a pejorative in the media discourses. Several instances, like Benjamin Button, turned out really well. Or who knows, maybe they'll just use some really elaborate makeup!
Thanks, I’ll need to read LOTR. Tolkien believed in the resurrection, so I’d not be surprised to read about it in his books. My memory is just a tad unreliable.😊
How in the world are they going to make an entire movie about Gollum? It was weird enough seeing "The Hobbit" split into three films.

Romantic subplot involving Gollum I assume.
Really? Are you. Kidding, or just twisted?
I am criticizing the Hobbit trilogy for adding romance, and at the same time, uttering an absurdity in the hopes that it is too absurd to happen
Ok
Sorry, but this sounds too much like the usual Hollywood idea of "milk it till you kill it."
It's already killed x.x
I'm confused.. Why and how are they going to make a movie about Gollum? Stop it!
Anything that takes me back to Middle Earth is good. Even if it's not.
