Wow. This post had me all choked up in the best way. I've been a Tolkien fan since I was 12 yrs old and care so deeply about this particular work of literature. Amy Mantravadi handled the text and pulling her points from it so honorably. This was a joy to read. I'll be saving it to share with my subscribers who are reading The Lord of Rings as group with me the fall!

That is one of my favorite moments (book or movie) because itโ€™s so important for the evolution of what Gandalf is. Itโ€™s a very powerful statement. It was a pleasure reading you!

Beautiful theological reflection, Amy! (I'm a theology and pop culture instructor - you get an A!)

Well, this is a tremendous honor. I have so many people to thank. My mother for pushing me. My shoes for supporting me. The economy for allowing this to happen in this economy. Iโ€™d also like to thank Josh for being too lazy to write an article this week so that I could have my moment in the spotlight. Truly, I am #blessed.

โ€œYou go on and get the greater glory. I will stand here and sacrifice myself. The enemy will only progress over my dead body, for I would rather see the will of God done and acknowledge the creator in a darkening world than enjoy whatever glories this present age has to offer.โ€ This shook me. Thank you.

Frodo and Sam are servants of the Secret Fire too. Sam is especially moving to read about because he serves by serving Frodo. He sees Frodo hungry and gives him food, sees him naked and clothes him, sees him in prison and visits (and frees!) him ... he lives all the Gospel commands.
