Jenn, I loved returning to our exchange last year about Tom Bombadil as a mushroom, and it took me back to what his deep connection to the land represents in *The Fellowship of the Ring*. So fun...gi. I'll show myself out as well :-)
Really enjoyed this. I have to admit that, as a latecomer to the stories, I struggle with the Tom Bomb section, but I am trying learn to appreciate it. Ha! This definitely helped. I am also currently reading LOTR to my oldest and was afraid I'd lose her in that chapter, but we just finished and she's still interested. :)
Hobbits and hippies: Tolkien and the counterculture#Tolkien#drugs
Tolkien himself would possibly be horrified by the multiplatform industry built upon his work. Today his saga is best known through Peter Jackson’s multi-billion-dollar-grossing movies. In these blockbuster films, Tolkien’s intricate narrative arc has been scaled beyond its original humanity and reduced to CGI eye-candy. The spirit of his work remains, in his original texts. Go there to the books, and rediscover Tolkien the mythmaker, the believer in the mysteries of faith and storytelling. And someone who was once so square he was cool.

I officially lost at “he’s a fun guy.” 🤣
Truly fascinating take. I have to share this with my friends at dinner this weekend…it will make for an interesting meal discussion!
Let me know what they say!

This one was great! Lot's for me personally to ponder here. Paul Stamets is an interesting fella for sure.
Enjoyed this greatly! Ol’ Tom was/is always a favorite!
