If they were musicians, Tolkien would be a classical player, but Lewis would play jazz...

Which is why I prefer Tolkien. I have never been able to see what people see (or, more precisely, hear) in jazz . . .

Well, in *Till We Have Faces* Lewis was less grab-bag. Much depends on the aesthetic effect desired.
