Very insightful! I will pedantically point out that Lewis also denied his works were allegorical, but said they were rather supposal fiction. "SUPPOSE Jesus came to another world in another form. What would that look like?" In that sense it's pretty literal :)
haha, exactly! He actually wrote an allegory: The Pilgrim’s Regress. So he knew very well what it would take to do it and was actively doing something else with Narnia in general and Aslan in particular.
The fun part is that *Leaf, By Niggle* is definitely an allegory, as witness that anyone who tries to interpret it without realizing that makes a hash of it.
