The Hunt For Gollum

Mae govannen, all!

This Tuesday, Warner Bros. announced the full cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

The biggest news to come out of this to be Lee Pace returning as Thranduil and Jamie Dornan’s casting as Strider. Ian McKellen’s return as Gandalf and Andy Serkis playing Gollum again were both previously announced, Elijah Wood’s return was all but confirmed, and Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan, and Leo Woodall had all already been cast (their characters had not been confirmed though).

Among other things, Jamie Dornan is known for his appearances in the TV shows Once Upon a Time and The Fall, playing Will Scarlett in the 2018 Robin Hood, and the 50 Shades of Grey films. Now he steps into the boots of Viggo Mortensen (too early to tell if he will break any toes in those boots while filming, however).

Halvard and Marigol both seem to be original characters, with Halvard perhaps being based on the Dúnadan Ranger of the North Halbarad (Halvard, Halbarad, Halbrand…hmmmm…).

So let’s talk about it, Extended Edition folks!

Today I’d love to hear from you:

  • What do you think of the cast announcement?

  • How has this new information affected your excitement for the movie? More excited? Less? A mixture?

  • Are you most interested in this movie, the announced Shadow of the Past movie being written by Stephen Colbert, or The Rings of Power season 3?

Of course, you can also share an introduction if you’re new to the Extended Edition or other thoughts inspired by this post.

Thank you, friends!

Namárië,

Josh
