If you’re participating in our Read Along, you’ve likely already embarked on the opening chapters of The Children of Húrin this past week. I’ve heard from several of you who are already out ahead of our suggested schedule and some who have yet to start. That’s alright! Just be sure not to spoil anything in the comments from sections beyond the suggested reading if you’re ahead, and tread carefully in the comments if you don’t want any spoilers and haven’t finished the suggested reading for the week.
PSA - I’ve mentioned in past posts that if you just wanted to participate at the ‘Hobbit’ level that you could read the relevant chapters of The Silmarillion. I shared which chapter to read last week, but realized just the other day that there are actually several Silmarillion chapters with content from The Children of Húrin, so I wanted to share them here:
Húrin and Huor’s journey to Gondolin is the second half of Chapter 18, “Of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin”
All but the first paragraph of Chapter 20, “Of the Fifth Battle: Nirnaeth Arnoediad”
All of Chapter 21, “Of Turin Turambar”
Húrin’s story concludes in the first half of Chapter 22, “Of the Ruin of Doriath.”
